Now that was a DAM fun weekend
Every year Shannon's hockey team heads up to Beaver Dam for their annual "That Dam Tourney". After three years I am still working out if we go up for the hockey or really for the fun at the hotel.
This year was a nice change as we talked our mothers into babysitting the kids for the weekend, allowing both of us to enjoy ourselves. The hockey portion of the trip went well, Shannon's team lost all their games, which was expected seeing we are defending last place. You might wonder why losing could be considered going well... The great part about this tourney is that it is put together to have a lot of fun, every year they come up with a new theme, this years being the 70s. On top of the different games they have going on at the rink such as the cake walk, coloring contest, raffles, trivia quizzes, etc they completely promote having a good time. For instance their largest trophy is actually given to the last place team. Last year was the first time we won the big trophy and as our women did the "Victory" lap around the rink, everyone couldn't help but enjoy the fun spirit of this weekend.
The other great part about this weekend is the time at the hotel. Everyone from the team brings a ton of food and alcohol. The day was spent by cooking a huge pot luck in one of the suites and playing games until it was time to leave for our second game. After returning back that evening we cooked up a large dinner and headed for the pool, now it may speak for how much some of the ladies have been drinking when last year they ladies started a tradition of synchronized swimming. It may not be pretty but it is absolutely one of the most hilarious and entertaining things to watch. Around 11pm the management finally came in and gave us the boot. Some of the team decided to call it a night while the rest of us diehards returned to one of the rooms and played pictionary until the wee hours. Whether it was the drinking or the hour it was amazing how every picture ended up seeming to look like some kind of phallic symbol, and the guesses coming out of everyone's mouth would probably made a sailor blush :)
