My first Official Run

I was inspired by my friend Dan and how he has turned his life around in regards to his health and wanted to follow suit. As part of this endeavor I decided it would be fun for the both of us to try to tackle a triathlon. No worries I am not crazy enough to just jump into that. We are currently talking about meeting up next summer to compete.

Back to today, as part of my training to get in better shape I have started working on the worst of the three events, which is running in my case. I realized in order to keep myself motivated I needed to start signing up for some runs. If I know I have to participate in an event I don't want to be the last across the line.

For the last month and a half I have started training for today's 5k run. Nothing to large but for a non runner I thought this would be a good start. I am happy to announce that I made it the whole 5k without stopping, without being last, and most importantly kept my goal of staying under a 10 minute mile. I am not sure how fast I completed this since I need to wait for results Monday morning, however I do know it was 20 some minutes. My guess probably close to a 9 minute mile :) So I will keep you guys posted and let you know if I sign up for another run next month... Brrrr...

I am Radioactive Man!

I haven't checked if I glow in the dark yet, and so far I show no spidey powers, of course to be fair I didn't get bit by a radioactive spider but by a radioactive needle ;)

Okay lets take a step back a week... Last week I was feeling pretty crappy trudging through the week with a cold. I just so happen to work with a number of sections who specialize in research. While visiting one of these sections, they noticed I was sick. Before I knew what hit me, I found myself swept up by researchers mumbling things like "ohh he is sick this is perfect... you will like this study, we pay you know..."

Well money definitely perked up my senses and of course I still had enough left to make sure it wasn't anything with experimental drugs. In fact the study has no drugs just a lot of breathing tests and some imaging scans. Specificely they are looking to see what effect a cold has on someone with asthma or allergies, and being someone without either asthma or allergies I work great as a control. So before I knew it I found myself as part of this "VIAX Study".

Now skip back forward to present day, part of this study involved imaging. What imagining you ask... well there are three a CT scan (cat scan), MRI, and a PET scan. The mri was down for upgrade however I was still able to get in for the cat scan and PET scan. I finished my cat scan last week and did the PET scan today.

So where did Radioactive man come from, well part of the PET scan involves injecting a radioactive isotope into your blood and then following its inteaction with your cells. Kind of scary thought isn't it. Really no pain or anything involved here, though I may glow a bit tonight :)

The best part is when you can sweet talk them into sharing the scan with you. Check it out that's my insides ;) Well it's a shot of my chest area, kind of hard to tell what you are looking at. No worries Dan nothing gross here kind of like an animated xray.

Coming to a store near you...

Well it has been forever since I have updated my blog. I have been quite lazy about keeping up and would like to get back to keeping up with weekly updates. Since my last post there has been a number of things I wish to share. However before I get there I would like to let everyone know I am planning on an overhaul to the site. I am hoping to integrate the photoalbum into the main site and get my pictures up to date and organized better. So with that I say stay tuned good things are coming and soon :)
